15 Tips For Riding Megabus In America

Megabus is the best way to travel across the continental United States, when judged by raw cost for quality. (And, yes, their prices really do start at $1.)

Before Megabus expanded to the U.S., Greyhound was the only means of public transportation available everywhere.

The lack of alternative intercity public transportation left low-budget travelers (like myself) to suffer the worst of capitalist monopoly.

During my first Greyhound trip, I sat next to someone who coughed nonstop into a handkerchief. Only upon arrival did I realize I had blood on my face. I remained sick for three weeks thereafter.

Another time, our driver got lost in Richmond and had to rely on passengers to lead her out of the city — which led to a two-hour delay.

On the return trip through Richmond, someone shot up the Greyhound station shortly before I arrived. This forced us to strand in Charlottesville, Virginia for 14 hours until Greyhound could find an available driver to continue.

That trip concluded with my paying triple my ticket to get my truck back after the Nashville Greyhound Station towed it (They provided no hint online that customers could not park at their station.).
