How To Confidently Put A To-Do List On Hold

I hate to-do lists. They’re like taxes — just something you have to do.

Some people prefer doing the most pressing tasks first and don’t mind procrastinating or “saving” the others for later. For me, however, completing to-do lists is a morale struggle, and to keep up morale, I have to see a string of accomplished missions.

Nothing saps my energy and joy more than knowing I’m behind on projects. I nearly shut down when I still have a to-do list without having as much done as I think I should.

When many of us are behind on goals — it doesn’t matter if it’s leisure or work — we feel guilty when we have to drop it and do something else. It’s an unfortunate fact of life that we don’t get to finish everything we have to do at once.

But stressing about the things we didn’t finish makes for a miserable time. Who wants to be around someone who’s focused on when they can get back to their pressing busywork?

A simple way I’ve found that works — whether it’s homework, work projects, or even hobbies — is to always begin with the easiest task.

Many advise to begin with the most important — the task that cannot wait. This isn’t bad advice, and if it works for you, go for it. I’ve just found that I gain greater peace of mind by accomplishing quantity over…
