I agree with you on the obsoleteness of college. But I don’t believe expanding apprenticeships and teaching students a broader range of subjects and skills are compatible with each other. If anything, school (both hs and college) have become oversaturated in subjects. If an adult chooses to switch careers at 30, he’s still goimg to have to learn from scratch the skills and knowledge of his new career. I agree with teaching kids how to learn but I think society (parents and school system) needs to take a more paternalistic view of teenagers and help guide them into a narrow study path and apprenticeship before they turn 17.
