Staying in hostels can enhance a vacation in ways that staying in a hotel, or even a bed and breakfast, cannot.
It provides opportunities to meet helpful people, make new friends, find sightseeing and drinking partners, learn more about an area, and save money.
Oh, and most hostels provide full kitchens instead of just a fridge and microwave.
But like most things in life, the level of enjoyment you get out of staying in hostels depends greatly on how well you take advantage of what they offer.

1. Socialize.
A hostel is an extrovert’s dream, but it also provides a comfortable experience for introverts to mingle. Most of the other lodgers are in similar situations — visiting as vacationers, researchers, or temporary workers.
Although meeting locals is part of visiting new places, it’s usually easier to connect with fellow travelers. Plus, it gives a certain feeling of dessert to a fun sightseeing day — being able to swap tourist stories with people who are also new to the area.
