Sure...

"I was left wondering how Dad gets along with members of the congregation when I’m not around. This is because, for my whole life, Dad has been a racist."

You never actually prove that your Dad is a racist. If the examples you give prove racism, then you should give yourself a pat on the back since you’re part of probably only 2% of Americans who meet your standard of righteousness.

"Dad was born in 1950, so he came of age during the final days of Jim Crow. It’s hard to imagine someone with that upbringing, in that era, not being at least a little bit racist."

That is an extreme generalization and a bigoted thing to say about Southern Boomers.

"He also held some racist beliefs that weren’t just old-school—they were Old Testament. Once he said Arabs were descended from Ishmael. He said, “The Bible describes Ishmael as being like ‘a wild ass,’ and that’s just how Saddam Hussein is—like a wild ass.”"

What does any of that have to do with racism? Practicing Jews and Christians of all races believe the Old Testament.

"Dad spends Sundays with Dr. Paul at the Living Word Fellowship, but the remainder of the week belongs to Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and the rest of the Fox News gang."

How do you know Dr. Paul doesn't like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity? Are you generalizing based on the color of his skin? Hmm...looks like you just fell from grace, my brother.

"My brother told me a story about how Dad found a floater in a public toilet and inexplicably blamed a Muslim for it."

What does that have to do with racism? Islam is a religion.

"He didn’t have a specific Muslim in mind—just a random, dark-complected Middle Easterner who he imagined was declaring jihad on the crappers of Christendom."

Did he specifically say "dark-skinned Muslim?" If not, how do you know he wasn't picturing a light-skinned Arab Muslim?

"Toward the end of the trip, I learned how Dad really got along with the other members of the Living Word Fellowship. Dad told my brother and me about a men’s retreat he’d attended. Some of the other fellas were airing their grievances about how black men were treated in the United States.

"“They’re pissin’ on us!” Dad mocked. “Well, what about all the white men who died in the Civil War?”"

Instead of putting your earphones in, you could have explained to him that the reason those men are preoccupied with black men being mistreated is the same reason he has a fear of Muslims and Obama's America. The media they consume highlights black men being mistreated, and the media he consumes focuses on little white boys getting beat up in school during the Obama years and Muslims attacking innocent people.

Ultimately, there’s no way you can agree with your perspectives in this article without believing that most people in America are racist because the....shall we call them “sins”? of your Dad are minor compared with what most Americans of all racial backgrounds have said about people of other ethnicities.
