We Don’t Have To Shine At Everything We Do

I love playing tennis. But I don’t keep up with the sport much and am less than mediocre at playing it.

Seriously, I have trouble beating my Dad, who is 28 years older than me.

I know I’ll never be a great tennis player. I’ll never play in any amateur tournaments. I’ll never impress anyone with my skills.

But that’s okay!

To me, tennis is simply one of life’s many social pleasures.

From an early age, we’re taught to be the best in everything we do. This attitude holds merit when looking to develop career skills.

But how boring would life be if we only did things we were good at?

How boring would life be if we never did something for the joy of doing it, instead of the joy of winning?

We all know that person who can’t bring themself to do anything they’re not good at. Playing board games with them is fine…until they lose. Playing cards is a blast…until they realize they’re not good at it. And God forbid they are good at something because you’ll never hear the end of it, and they likely won’t want to do much else.

We’re social and competitive beings. We need to be around people, and we need to compete. But no one is good at everything and trying to be will only drive…
