What To Do When You Don’t Feel Like Doing Anything

Most of us have been there. I know I have quite often. I wake up and want to go straight back to sleep. I get to work and can’t stop glancing at the clock.

Or, perhaps, it’s a day off, and no matter what I’m doing, I can’t escape the feeling that I’m wasting what little free time I have.

Absent being sick if you go through this sometimes understand this feeling of lethargy is a symptom of depression. You may not even have a reason to be depressed, and you may not realize you are. But recognizing this lack of desire to do anything is not a symptom of laziness or mental dullness can help overcome it.

So, here are a few practices I find helpful in coming alive again when I’m feeling like a useless waste of space.

1. Eat

This may sound counterintuitive to people fearful of stress-eating, but trust me it works.

Don’t splurge on junk food, but go ahead and treat yourself to a wholesome, healthy meal. Eating can wake you up and get your mind off the nothingness eating away at your joy and making you dull to be around.

2. Sleep

Sometimes we really do just need more rest and don’t realize it. You obviously can’t do this at work, but if it’s a day off, lie down for a few minutes…
