Your original mistake was identifying as BIPOC. Are you a naturalized US citizen? If so, you should embrace your identity as an Indian American. Are you not a US citizen? Then, just identify as Indian. Americans (white or otherwise) don’t have anything against Indians (although I’m personally not a a fan of the food). Those “microaggressions” you speak of are simply acts of casual conversation by colleagues trying to be friendly. For instance, you’re the best expert in Indian culture that that father-in-law will ever meet. Why would you take offense at his question? You should be flattered. This kind of attitude you have makes people want to avoid foreigners on the political left. Who wants to form a friendship with someone who thinks like this?
